Debra Taylor

MASTERS CHAMPION - ROWING
Debra was born in Trail on August 18, 1953. She attended the J. Lloyd Crowe High School, graduating in 1971 and attended the University of Victoria, obtaining a degree in Education in 1976. She then pursued her career as a schoolteacher in Victoria.
Debra has excelled in Masters Rowing competitions in Canada and the United States.
In 1997, she won the silver medal in the Women’s Quads at the Canadian Masters National Championships in Victoria. The following year, 1998, she won the bronze medal in the Mixed Quads in the World Masters Games in Portland, Oregon.

In 1999, Debra won the gold medal in the Women’s Single Sculls in the BC Masters Championship in Victoria and followed that up with a gold medal in the Light Weight Women’s Sculls and the Women’s Double Sculls, and a silver medal in the Mixed Double Sculls at the Canadian Masters National Championships in Ontario. She was awarded the Masters Athlete of the Year Award in Victoria in that year.

In the year 2000, she continued her success in rowing, winning a gold medal in the Women’s Single Sculls and the Mixed Double Sculls in the Seattle Sprints in Seattle, Washington. She also won the gold medal in the Mixed Double Sculls, the silver medal in the Women’s Single Sculls, and the Light Weight Women’s Single Sculls in the Northwest Regional Championships in Green Lake, Washington.

She followed that up with a silver medal in the Women’s Single Sculls at the BC Masters Championship in Victoria, a gold medal in the Light Weight Women’s Double Sculls, and a bronze medal in the Women’s Quads at the Canadian Masters National Championships in Victoria, and gold medals in the Women’s Single Sculls and Double Sculls in other Victoria events.

Debra now works tirelessly for the James Bay Athletic Association Rowing Club and teaching and coaching children the sport of rowing.
